Récapitulation du cours : Today, we started off class discussing corrections and plagiarism. Please remember that when correcting any in-class assignments to correct with a different colored pen. Also, please remember that plagiarism is a serious offense, whether it be for homework, a project, or a test. When I state that homework is due at the beginning of class, you are to have it on your desk, ready for me to verify, and are NOT in the process of completing it. You are to complete your homework outside of class hours.
Next, steps with regard to next class’, that is le mardi 14 janvier 2020, dictee were explained in class and students received time to create their account for the following website so they may have access to next week’s and future dictees. Please view following link – https://unedicteeparjour.fr/ – and steps below for instructions on how to make an account to access online dictees:
You will need to create an account to access the dictee – click on the green tab in the top right corner of your screen entitled “Mon compte” and follow instructions to create your own account. Once you have created an account, consult the following link to access next week's dictee: https://unedicteeparjour.fr/dictees/la-lettre/. You are able to listen to the dictation, view its corrections, access the text, and record your progress (how many errors committed, improvement, etc.) Prior to last year, one did not have to enter information to access these dictations. However, as of recently, all users of the ‘unedicteeparjour.fr’ website must create an account in order to access materials from this site. A link for this website can equally be found under the “Liens utiles” tab on our course’s website.
We then reviewed French accents and punctuation with notes. You will have to be familiar with French punctuation for next week’s dictee. As a result, I have attached an image in the above file for those who were absent.
After, questions were asked related to vocabulaire for chapitre 3, competences 3 et 4, handed out last class. Students were then handed out the grammar package for chapitre 3, competence 3’s content (view attached .PDF document above). Students read this in class and asked any questions with respect to the material. A PowerPoint was shown related to the grammatical content, that is possessive adjectives (please view attached .ppt file above). Exercices D, page 123, and exercice A, page 124, were completed and corrected in class. Exercice B, page 125, is to be completed for homework.
Devoirs : 1) Study for dictee, “La lettre”, https://unedicteeparjour.fr/dictees/la-lettre/. This will take place next class, that is le mardi 14 janvier 2020.

Next, students wrote their vocabulary quiz related to vocabulary from chapitre 3, competences 1 et 2. This was equally corrected in class. After, students completed pages 35-36 in their large course package to help them review housing related vocabulary and prepositions. N.B.: There will be a similar exercise on your chapter 3 unit test where you will receive a floorplan/blueprint of a house with objects. You will have to describe the location/placement of these house-related objects in relation to each other using prepositions (i.e. where these objects are located in relation to each other).* Finally, the vocabulary sheet for chapitre 3, competences 3 et 4 was handed out to students and this was reviewed with a partner following the usual format – that is reading through the French words with English translations to work on pronunciation, followed by a dictation where one student reads out the French word and the other students writes it out on a piece of paper (then switch roles). If students completed this, they were instructed to use their phones to consult Quizlet so as to further review the vocabulary for chapitre 3, competences 3 et 4.

Enjoy your Christmas holiday and I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year. Please continue to review your vocabulary on Quizlet.
Bien cordialement,

Récapitulation du cours : Today, clarification with respect to the project outline (view attached file from last class below) was reviewed in class. Clarifications include the following: 1)The written portion (part 2) of your presentation is to include some/all elements 1-11 on the first page of your project outline. However, you may not be able to include descriptions/explanations of all element, therefore, please include the most important ones. Also, feel free to add additional elements in both your oral and written components if your oral presentation is not 2-3 minutes long or your written portion is not 200-250 words long; 2) No bibliography is required for this project, however, please do not copy and paste elements from websites, as a simple Google Search will allow me to figure out who has plagiarized; 3) Some students may have chosen the same characters. If this is the case, please do so at your own discretion, as I will be checking for similarities in both your oral presentation and written component to ensure you worked ALONE on your projects; 4) If you are unable to locate certain elements to describe your character (online), please create/make up this information so that all components, that is #s 1-11, are included.
Students had access to laptops in order to work on their projects. Students will have next Monday, October 28th, and Wednesday, October 30th, 2019, to work on their projects. Presentations will start le vendredi 1er novembre 2019. Order of presentations will be chosen at random with the use of Popsicle sticks. If you are NOT ready to present le vendredi 1er novembre 2019, you will lose 10% of your final grade for this project (no exceptions).
N.B.: I will hand back chapter tests once everyone has written their test. We will review certain sections of the test next at this time. I will post grades for all students who have written their tests later this week/this weekend.
Devoirs : 1) Continue to work on project. Presentations will start le vendredi 1er novembre 2019 (no exceptions). Please let me know if you have any questions or require any further clarification. :)
FYI: Some useful ways to review vocabulary I have suggested are as follows: 1) Cover the English side of your vocabulary and write out the French translations on a piece of paper and vice-versa (science proves that humans retain more information when they physically write things out instead of typing or reciting orally); 2) Write out sentences using the vocabulary words to practice both nouns, verbs, and adjectives - ex: "Mes amis sont intelligents." - this way you work on learning more than one word at a time and create full sentences while reviewing multiple grammatical concepts we have seen thus far; 3) Make cue cards with the French word(s)/sentence one one side and the English word(s)/sentence on the other side. If you prefer working with a computer, you may also want to consider the website, Quizlet, to create your flashcards.

Récapitulation du cours : Today, we started off class reviewing what we went over last class as well as the vocabulary for chapitre 1, compétences 3 and 4. We then watched a video on "comment faire la bise": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmE66ttE7V8. 2 questions based on the video were answered: 1) How many times does one usually "faire la bise"? 2) When do we usually "faire la bise"? What does it depend on? These questions as well as a cultural contextualization of the video were addressed and discussed in class. Students completed this activity by learning how to do the "bise" with a partner so as to know how to greet people in France and other French-speaking countries. Next, students' question related to pages 16-17 (view attached .pdf file from previous class above) were discussed and answered in class. A short video on "how to tell time" in French was then shown in class: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zYIOBs6-TY.
