Block F :
Récapitulation du cours : Today, we started off class with a new seating plan as well as a cellphone policy. We then had a sharing session related to what students did during their Christmas break and reviewed what the substitute went over the week prior to the break. Next, writing assignments were handed back and explained. Students were also reminded to hand in their -er verb worksheet by Wednesday, January 8th, 2020, or else they will receive 0 on their homework assignment as we will be correcting this assignment next class. After, French accents, with examples, were reviewed on the board; students took note of these in their binders. A listening/oral comprehension exercise was then completed in groups through the listening of a song entitled “Chantez, chantez” by Amadou and Myriam so as to get students acquainted with different French accents (African accent in this song). Vocabulary related to this song was studied and used to fill in the blanks of the above song’s lyrics. The song is located within the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHrY0ClvSUo. The accompanying worksheet for this exercise can be found in the attached .PDF file above (please see me for answer key, as needed).
Devoirs : 1) Review vocabulary for quiz – chapitre 2, competences 1 et 2 (word bank quiz, will change back to old format where you will have to write out word in entirety for ch. 3 and beyond as you now have Quizlet to review vocabulary) – le mercredi 8 janvier
2) Study for present tense -er verb + adverb quiz – tentatively le vendredi 10 janvier 2020 ( /12)

Please view your Delta email with regard to the vocabulary quiz upon your return in January 2020. It is as follows:
Bonjour tout le monde,
Just a clarification with respect to your vocabulary quiz in January 2020 (most likely January 8th, 2020):
Your quiz will be on vocabulary from chapitre 2, competences 1 et 2, as we discussed last week prior to my departure. For chapter 2, we will maintain our word bank format. However, since you have access to additional exercises on Quizlet to assist you with revision of the vocabulary, we will likely return to our former format - 10 words, 5 French-English, 5 English-French translations, you must write out words with articles as needed; no word bank - starting in chapter 3.
Enjoy your Christmas holiday and I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year. Please continue to review vocab.
Cordialement,
M. Cyr
You will also have an upcoming quiz on present tense -er verbs. This will tentatively take place on Friday, January 10th, 2020.

After, a game working with adjectives was done in class where 2 dice, one white and one orange, corresponding to a subject + verb and an adjective respectively, was played in class in groups of 3, for students to review adjective agreement. Finally, a practice test was completed in class and, if not finished in class, is to be finished for homework. An answer key for this practice test was equally handed out to students. Please find both a copy of the practice test and its answer key in the attached .PDF files above. We will go over any final questions related to this document and to chapter 1 grammatical content prior to the test le jeudi 14 novembre 2019.
FYI: Please also find a Kahoot reviewing definite and indefinite article forms in the following link (for extra practice): https://create.kahoot.it/details/les-articles-definis-et-indefinis/5227607b-cc37-414f-9789-c3c0fdc960fc.

FYI: Some useful ways to review vocabulary I have suggested are as follows: 1) Cover the English side of your vocabulary and write out the French translations on a piece of paper and vice-versa (science proves that humans retain more information when they physically write things out instead of typing or reciting orally); 2) Write out sentences using the vocabulary words to practice both nouns, verbs, and adjectives - ex: "Mes amis sont intelligents." - this way you work on learning more than one word at a time and create full sentences while reviewing multiple grammatical concepts we have seen thus far; 3) Make cue cards with the French word(s)/sentence one one side and the English word(s)/sentence on the other side. If you prefer working with a computer, you may also want to consider the website, Quizlet, to create your flashcards.
